The STEVEN DOUGLAS CO., INC
, has been designing and manufacturing Figurative Jewelry, actually “wearable art” for twenty years. In that time they have established themselves as a leader in this jewelry type. They offer a variety of designs achieving a worldwide reputation for creating jewelry of unsurpassed quality, uniqueness and collectability. It is a time consuming process requiring perfection from a team of artists and craftsmen from the original design to the production of the finished piece.
The creation of the jewelry is a three part process: the original design, the making of an original model and the execution of a finished piece. The motivation for the original design is inspired by nature, imagination and
the desire to create the best piece of jewelry possible. Initially the designer has a mental visualization of the piece. If the vision is strong enough the model can be immediately started but usually it requires sketching to fine tune the concept. Sometimes design take no time at all but sometimes hours are spent massaging the idea into a valid design. The second step of actually making the original model is the most time consuming part of the process. Without a perfect model, a perfect piece of finished jewelry is not possible. Perfection comes with the investment of up to eighty hours per model to create. The sculptor will spend at least half or more of that time dealing with the details of the design. This attention to details is vital to obtain the desired results, without it, the design would just be ordinary. The original model is then cast, painstakingly finished and expertly molded.
Reproducing the original design is the last step and requires focused and patient craftsmen through the whole process. As many as eight different individuals with specialized talents will be involved and only perfection is permitted through every step. Only materials of the highest quality are sought out and used. It will take hours to produce a single piece achieving the necessary quality to be released as an original Steven Douglas design.
